Volunteer Leader Required

Here at The Somerville Foundation we are very proud of our track record of working in partnership with other heart charities. The more closely we can work together the better it is for everyone!

Hazel Greig-Midlane from Heartline Families has asked if we can help to find a suitable volunteer to support heart children on an activity break. So we are advertising Heartline’s vacancy below. If you are interested, please contact Heartline directly as you will be recruited by them and volunteering for Heartline.

The Somerville Foundation sends its best wishes to the team at Heartline and we hope that everyone on the planned break has a superb time!

Volunteer Leader for Heartline PGL Activity Break

Would you welcome the experience of offering support to young people who are often encountering their first taste of holidaying away from their parents?

For many years Heartline has been sending children with heart conditions and, separately, siblings, for a short activity break at PGL in the summer holidays.  This year we are planning to send twelve children with heart conditions aged 9 to 17, from 1- 4 August to  Boreatton Park, Shrewsbury.

We are now looking for a young man or woman to become  one of three Heartline Leaders who accompany them.

You will need to have experience of a child with a heart condition – either personally, or as a parent or sibling -  and  some quantifiable experience of working with children or young people. You will need to be DBS checked before undertaking this role.

You don’t have to be Bear Grylls, but this is a hands-on activity weekend.  You will need to get stuck in and you will get wet!  You must be able to walk across / around the equivalent of a country park with some small hills (although we do get transport when needed, it would be better not to need it for the Leader!)

Of course PGL Staff provide experienced team leaders and take ownership of every event.  HL leaders give help such as getting all harnesses on ready for tightening and checking to help save time before they are thrice checked for safety by the experts.

Heartline pays travel and expenses to cover the four days (Friday 1st to Monday 4th August 2014). If this sounds something you would like to do, please email Kevin Ford at with a short CV.
