Heart surgeon Stuart Hillis passes away

On 22nd July 2014, Professor Stuart Hillis sadly passed away.  He was one of the pioneers of adult congenital cardiac care in the west of Scotland. The Golden Jubilee Hospital gave this statement:

"The entire team here at the Golden Jubilee were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Professor Stewart Hillis. Commenting on this sad news, our Medical Director Dr Mike Higgins, said:

“We heard today of the sad death of Professor Stewart Hillis. Professor Hillis was one of the pioneers of adult congenital cardiology in the West of Scotland and despite his formal retirement was working with the congenital cardiology team at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital as recently as May of this year.

“He was hugely respected for his expertise in the fields of interventional cardiology and sports medicine, where he had international reputations. He was highly respected by his colleagues and loved by his patients. He was a man of great humanity and humility who was always proud of his Clydebank roots. He had a wickedly self -depreciating sense of humour and he will be missed by patients, families and colleagues alike.”

Others pay tribute.
