Heart Surgeon Donald Ross

Sadly, on Monday 7th July 2014, Donald Ross, pioneer of the ‘Ross procedure,’ passed away.

Donald Ross was a pioneer of cardiac surgery and as well as developing the procedure used to treat aortic valve disease, he also led the team that carried out the first heart transplant in the UK in 1968.

He worked very closely with, and was great friends with, Jane Somerville.

Having operated on many members of The Somerville Foundation, Dr Ross will be sadly missed.

Jane will be paying a personal tribute to Dr Ross in the Autumn 2014 issue of GUCH News. If you do not already receive GUCH News join our mailing list.
