Pulmonary Hypertension

The Somerville Foundation (formerly GUCH PA) has joined forces with Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK (PHA UK) and Down's Heart Group (DHG) to call for the needs of people co-diagnosed with a congenital heart condition and pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) to be addressed in the ongoing NHS review and designation of adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) services.

We have been working together on a research project 'A Time of Opportunity?' among patients, carers, healthcare professionals and commissioners, into the services for people born with a congenital heart condition who also have developed PAH.

"Evidence shows that appropriate specialist management of ACHD patients can result in better outcomes, and therefore these patients require specialist care to ensure that the condition is properly managed
" explains Iain Armstrong a PAH Nurse Consultant from Sheffield and Chairman of PHA UK.

The PAH Patient Experience Report and recommendations are available to download.

The Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK website also has lots of further information and self-help resources.
