"I would like to raise some money to help this charity… I have been really depressed, worrying about having open heart surgery, but talking to Anne has helped me so much. She listened to me and helped me to understand what will happen and how to cope with my anxiety. There is now light at the end of the tunnel. If I could receive some information about what I can do to support others and raise awareness it would be most appreciated.”

Liz, Bristol

The amazing people who raise money for the Somerville Foundation are the force behind projects like Hearts and Minds. Without your support we would not be able to offer the help that these patients need.

Join us to collect money for hearts & minds

In 2018 we will be pushing forward with our programme to improve the mental health of congenital heart patients.

We want to give congenital heart patients the tools, skills and opportunities to tackle their mental health problems, coming out the other side stronger, more supported and with a greater resilience to tackle anything life throws at them.

It would be great to hear that you would like to take part in our next collection. Please let us know if you can help.

Why should you help?

Just take a moment to imagine what it is like to have a congenital heart condition? To be born with a blue nose and lips, to have trouble breathing and to face surgery after surgery. To grow up with a life long condition and be acutely aware of your own mortality from a very young age. To be scarred for life, both physically and mentally.

These people need your help. Work with us so that they can enjoy life, be free from discrimination and be fully supported throughout their life.

Practical considerations

You will not require any specific training although all volunteers are given a full briefing before the collection starts. Please arrive by no later than 12.50pm to receive your briefing, ID and collection pot or bucket.

We have a permit to collect outside ITFC on this day between the hours of 1.30pm and 3pm. Volunteers will not be allowed to collect without the proper authorisation and ID.

Wrap up warm and enjoy the atmosphere before the game starts. With everyone still full of Christmas cheer we look forward to this end of year collection.

Sounds great, I want to be involved!

To register to volunteer for this collection, please fill in this form. Alternatively you can contact Helen or Anna by email or call 01473 252007.

Dr Manos Georgiadis completed the initial research successfully and we are currently working with Dr Chris Turner to help establish three new PhD programmes to work on CHD projects at UOS.

Read about Manos' research in GUCH News. To get further updates just sign up to receive our eNewsletter at the bottom right of this page.
