A Celebration of Life

Scarred FOR Life is an exciting new project - a special photo exhibition of adults born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) baring their scars in celebration of life.

The project was run in Scotland by three CHD volunteers on behalf of The Somerville Foundation – Liza Morton, our Campaign Manager in Scotland, Jenny Kumar and Caroline Wilson.

It aimed to:
1. Tell the story of a population hidden in plain sight.
2. Empower patients living in Scotland and raise awareness of the unique needs of adults with CHD.
3. Raise the profile of The Somerville Foundation in Scotland, which supports young people and adults born with a heart condition.

About the project
The photo exhibition was held in the Central Hall of Glasgow’s prestigious Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum from 12 February 2015 until 15 March 2015 and was open to the public from 13 February. Kelvingrove is one of the most visited museums in Scotland, welcoming more than one million visitors each year.

For the month of May 2015, the exhibition moved to the Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Clydebank.

In June 2015 the exhibition moved to the Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert, and in October it was on display at our annual conference in Bristol and at the Scottish Parliament.

The media coverage about the project has been huge. You can find the links here.

From here the exhibition will star in the launch of a new research centre at University Campus Suffolk, where a new chapter in the history of congenital heart patients and the understanding of congenital heart disease will begin. For more details keep a look out on our Events page.
