General Life Stuff

The Mix: online information for young people on lots of topics such as, work/study, housing, sex and relationships, health and wellbeing, travel and money etc.

Citizens Advice bureau: lots of info and advice on your rights, benefits, housing etc

Drugs and alcohol Information

Frank: information on the effects of drugs and alcohol - 24 hr Helpline 0300 123 6600.

Affected by bullying or abuse?

ChildLine: for young people in distress, trouble or danger - 24 hr Helpline 0800 1111.

Bullying UK: they offer listening, supportive and non-judgemental advice on bullying Helpline 0808 800 2222.

Sexual health + sexuality and gender questions?

Brook Advice Agency: free, confidential sexual health services and advice for young people under 25 years.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered?: Switchboard offers confidential support throughout the UK - daily helpline (10am-10pm) 0300 330 0630.

Young Stonewall: info on the issues for young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people at home, school and work.

Gendered Intelligence: lots of information and support for young people and families and professionals related too transgender.

Mental Health Issues

Youth Access: is the national membership organisation for young people's information, advice, counselling and support services (YIACS). They have a search facility on their website to look for local services for children 12- 25 years.

The Mix: Free confidential help for under 25 year olds. Helpline 0808 808 4994 (1-11pm every day).

Young Minds: is a charity focusing on the emotional and mental wellbeing of young people. They have information for young people and parents.

RU-OK: Interactive site for teenagers. Online support in dealing with common emotional problems and building on your strengths.

Feeling down, or feel like hurting yourself or suicidal?

The Samaritans: for people who are in despair or suicidal – 24 hr helpline 116 123 (all calls free from mobiles and landlines) 

Papyrus: for young people who are feeling suicidal  - helpline 0800 068 4141 (Mon-Fri 10am-10pm weekends/bankhols 2-5pm)

Calm: for young men who are depressed.

Students Against depression: info and support.

National Self-Harm Network: info/support for people who self-injure.

Self-Injury Support: service for women and girls, information, text support. Helpline 0808 800 8088 (Tues+Weds 7-10pm Thurs 3-6pm).

Eating Disorders

Beat: lots of online information and support about eating disorders, difficulties with food, weight and shape. Helpline 0845 634 1414 (for anyone over 18 and parents, teachers etc).

Youthline: 0845634 7650 (for anyone under 25 yrs).


Hope Again: Cruse Bereavement Care website for young people offering a place to share feelings of grief and loss, also advice and information Helpline 0808 808 1677 (Mon-Fri 9.30-5pm).
